Introduction

Tourism and leisure shape our personal lives and the places in which we live, work and play.  Such large, dynamic and complex industries create impacts and present management challenges at local, national and global scales.  As two of the largest industries in the world, tourism and leisure have the power to affect economies, societies, environments and cultures.

Tourism and leisure experiences and events dominate urban and rural landscapes and have shaped the regeneration of cities worldwide.  Despite the importance attached to tourism and leisure in policy-making, planning and employment terms, there continues to be a shortage of qualified managers.

Our degree programme will equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to influence the future of the industries through not only classroom-based learning, but also periods of fieldwork and work-related learning.  We even offer an optional industrial sandwich year. Successful graduates have embarked on careers in tourism planning, tourism and leisure marketing, leisure management, hospitality and events management.

At Liverpool John Moores University, we examine these exciting subjects from a range of perspectives including management and business studies, social sciences and cultural studies.  Our lecturers are actively engaged in writing and publishing books and research papers, undertaking consultancy work and developing tourism and leisure studies.  Particular areas of expertise which feed into the programme of study include urban tourism, cultural and heritage tourism, sustainable and ecotourism, mass tourism, and small business and management leadership development.
