Who we are and What we do
Computing & Information Services (CIS) is responsible for the hardware, network and software infrastructure which underpins all computing activities in LJMU.
CIS Organisational Structure
The major constituents of CIS are as follows:
Corporate Applications Group
- The Corporate Applications Group are responsible for providing the administrative software systems to run the university, including student records, personnel, finance and payroll, and many more. The Programme Office supports the university development programme and provides a business analysis function.
Systems & Networks
- The Systems team provide the infrastructure on which all university systems operate, together with the 'client' desktop systems through which these are accessed. The Networks team is responsible for the university telecommunications network through which all IT, internet and telephone services are delivered.
User Support Services
- The Operations team oversees the running and maintenance of the infrastructure of server and storage systems.
- The CIS Helpdesk provides an IT helpdesk service for all LJMU staff.
- The Technicians team install and maintain PCs throughout the university.
- The Web Team provide the technical basis for the university website and web-based services, including this help with computers web site.
- The User Support team provide support for university staff IT users, liaison, training and problem-solving.
Commercial / Administration Team
- The Commercial Team provide an IT procurement service for the university, and look after the operation of the university printing systems. The Administration team look after CIS administration and financial affairs.

Support for student users is provided primarily by other departments, mainly Library and Student Support, whilst some individual sites and schools provide their own computing support.
