Graduation: Sun shines on successful students

The morning of Monday 11 July, saw the first of the 2011 LJMU Graduation Ceremonies. Students from the Faculty of Health and Applied Social Sciences celebrated in style at Liverpool Cathedral.

Congratulations to all of our students who graduated during the week.

Here are just a few student success stories from the morning:

Alice Pulford who graduates with BA (Hons) ‘Working with Children and Young People’ is currently working with Malawi orphans. Alice won ‘outstanding student volunteer’ at Liverpool Students’ Union ‘LSU loves you awards’. She was also runner up of the 2010 Britain’s Most Dynamisante Woman of the Year ran by YOU and Clarins.

Speaking before her ceremony Alice said:
“I received amazing support from my lecturers and always felt encouraged to achieve my best. I definitely feel guided towards a career that I will enjoy. The University is great for recognising volunteering which is important for what I want to do.”

Rachel Childs graduated from the Faculty of Health with a BSc degree in Paramedic Studies.

Rachel was full of praise for the course and the staff:
"The course was truly inspiring and fully prepared me to be a professional paramedic. I really enjoyed the practical aspect of the course. I now work for the North West Ambulance Service and believe that I secured immediate employment as a direct result of the contacts and experience that I gained on work placements throughout my study".


Onyekachi S Kanu was awarded an MSc in Public Health (International Health Development) in addition to his WoW certificate:

"From the workshops to the writing of the WOW statements you are developed and guided into a critical look inwards, to dig deep down and unveil those vital qualities and abilities that employers look for. The interview with a graduate employer gives you a first hand experience of what to expect in the real world of the job market. This experience has further reinforced my positive selling points and together with my qualifications and experiences, turned me into a full package for any employer"

Heather Ashbrook has only just completed the BSc degree in Paramedic Studies and has already secured a graduate job close to home.

"I found all the teaching staff at LJMU very supportive. As soon as I qualified I walked straight into a job 20 minutes from where I live. The course has fully prepared me for the world of work as it is more vocational than most of the courses offered by other universities and it is for that reason that I went into a career so quickly. Credit should go to the LJMU course leaders for the way that they designed the course – it made the transition tointo work easier".
