Record breaking numbers attend LJMU Open Day
04 July 2011
The Art and Design Academy opened its doors to more than 1,700 prospective students and their families at LJMU's undergraduate Open Day held last Wednesday 29 June.
Staff and current students were available to give potential students information about all aspects of studying at LJMU - from information and guidance on choosing the right course, finance, accommodation and welfare to subject specific talks. The Graduate Development Centre gave advice about employment opportunities and the WoW certificate whilst Liverpool Students’ Union chatted about student life. Students were also taken on tours of our buildings, teaching facilities and visits to student accommodation. There were also regular coach tours of the city led by Blue Badge Guides, who pointed out the famous sights of the city and various University buildings.
Charlotte Harrison, Student Recruitment & Widening Access Manager said that the event was a great success:
"As well as informing students about our exciting new sports partnership with Liverpool City Council this was the first time that all of our accommodation providers opened their doors to allow visitors to look around. Students could walk to any of our providers’ accommodation allowing them to get a real feel of what it would be like to study and live at LJMU.
The great weather added to a very successful event where many visitors stopped staff to say how impressed they were with the facilities but also about the wonderful and helpful staff at LJMU who had made their visit so special. We shall be sending out questionnaires to all those that visited to get detailed feedback on the event. We would like to thank the many staff from Faculties and Service Teams that got involved – it was a great team effort that made the event such a success".
Carolyn Williams, Director of Student Recruitment and Widening Access added:
"We were delighted to welcome so many prospective students – we attracted over 60% more visitors than at our Open Day this time last year. This further supports our view that students and their families more than ever will want to do research and experience the university before making such a life-changing decision".
