File Storage
Personal File Storage
All users are allocated a personal filestore on a central server. This is intended to be used as a storage area for personal files and personal web pages. It should not be used to store files accessed by work groups - shared file storage is provided for this purpose.
Shared File Storage
Staff users who need to share files with colleagues can be provided with a shared storage area. This is an area of disk space on a central server which can be accessed by a nominated group of users. The owner of each shared storage area determines who can access that area and the type of access permitted (e.g. read-only, change but not create, full access, etc.)
Core university business
Shared areas for use in support of core University business will be provided free of charge, and incremented as necessary to meet increasing storage requirements. (Limits will however be set on total storage for each department, and are subject to the overall availability of disk space).
If you require a file share to be set up, please use the fileshare setup request form. You will need to confirm on this form that the shared area will only be used for core university business.
Non core university business
For non core university business, such as externally funded projects, funded research or commercial actiivity, disk space will be charged at the rates shown on this page.

Microsoft SharePoint
An alternative to file shares is Microsoft SharePoint. This is a system that provides a collaboration space, accessible via a web browser. Storage quotas
The default quotas are shown on the computing entitlements page.
Large storage requirements
Users whose file storage requirements are in excess of the maximum free of charge quota (currently capped at 10Gb) can purchase additional capacity. The costs for this are shown on the Storage, Database & Application Hosting Charges page.
