Our Graduates
Please find below some information on some of our recent MA graduates.
Jennifer Kelly MA (Distinction)
Jennifer started the course with no experience in tourism and a BSc in mathematics! She recently graduated with distinction in MA Tourism and Leisure Management Development.
‘I enjoyed the course and found the modules very interesting and beneficial to my career. My favourite modules were marketing and the management modules. The dissertation module was also very useful as it gave me the opportunity to carry out my own research and plan my time. Skills which I am currently putting into practice in the workplace’.
When completing the course Jennifer applied for, and was offered a place, on the Hilton Graduate Scheme, which she believes ‘would never have been offered had it not been for the MA’. I started with a 4 month hotel placement in the Hilton Frankfurt and now I am working on a global product launch in the marketing department at the Hilton Head Office.
Kanokwan Suwanpakdee (Thailand) MA (Distinction)
Kanokwan wanted to study in England and liked what Liverpool had to offer. After undertaking the course she recently graduated with distinction in MA Tourism and Leisure Management Development.
‘In addition to my personal interest in tourism studies as I run a small tour operating ccompany, I learned that the tourism management program at LJMU was very reputable; therefore, I finally chose LJMU. I found that the program encompassed a variety of interesting topics useful for business and tourism and hospitality business in particular. The university gave a supportive environment as it is well equipped with internet and good facilities. The lecturers know the ropes and they are so friendly and helpful. My student life in Liverpool was enriched by various activities. I guess I achieved what I planned and I am happy for myself. I can say that this is one of my best decisions I've ever made. I am back in Thailand and now working as a lecturer as planned’.
Zoe Slater MA (Distinction)
After completing a BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management, Zoe decided to continue her studies to Masters Level. She recently graduated with distinction in MA Tourism and Leisure Management Development.
‘After looking through various prospectuses, I decided upon Liverpool John Moores, not only as it is my home city but also being the Capital of Culture 2008. This particular course offered me the opportunity to further expand my knowledge by studying modules devoted to the Leisure industry... as it would enable me to work both in the leisure and tourism industry.
‘Everybody on the course was very friendly, including the lecturers. The class its self was only small in numbers yet there were a variety of cultures and ages, making it extremely interesting, as students were at different stages of their lives (some had previously been employed in the industry) it brought real life examples to illustrate theories. Likewise, with having colleagues from different cultures meant learning about their cultures, which was a fascinating extra to the course along with making friends for life (and an opportunity to travel to see their home countries).
The structure of the course was well thought out. The support throughout my time at the University was great, on starting we each got assigned out personal tutor, who we could go to throughout the year if needed, yet every tutor was helpful and willing to help where they could. The dissertation itself was very demanding, but with the support, guidance and motivation from my tutor made it thoroughly enjoyable and extremely rewarding. My dissertation is something that I am particularly proud of along with completing this course and achieving a distinction overall (something which I never thought I would get).
I do feel that opting to continue my studies, has provided me with more opportunities for my future career and differentiates myself from others in a very competitive graduate market’.
