Modules
Following a short induction for you to assess if the course is for you, there are 3 modules supplemented with 2 tutorials:
Module 1 is over 3 days and is concerned with 'Understanding how management coaching and mentoring can benefit individuals and organisations'
Module 2 is 'Reviewing your own ability as a management coach or mentor'
Module 3 looks at 'Understanding management coaching or mentoring in the workplace' which acts as a precursor to a minimum of 12 hours coaching or mentoring practice.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be practising managers.
There are two options of attendance: open attendance as a LJMU staff member without leading to a qualification and following the formal qualification route.
1. Open attendance
This entails LJMU staff participating in each session without being required to undertake any practical work or assessment.
2. Qualification Route
For those undertaking the course as an ILM qualification a further 12 hours practical coaching or mentoring activity is a mandatory requirement along with a work-based assignment based on the first module and a coaching diary, recording their planning and understanding of coaching sessions and reflections on the effectiveness of their coaching activity.
If intending to go for the ILM accreditation, participants should normally have successfully completed the ILM Level 3 Award, Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management or the ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Management, or an equivalent qualification. Exceptional candidates who have no formal qualification in management, but who have several years' experience and completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.
